Dear Mr Paterson,
Following the recent revelations regarding inaccurate food labelling I am calling on you to lead the way in ensuring transparency and improving consumer confidence.
Please act swiftly to:
• Liaise with the European Commission and other Member States to secure a rapid strengthening of EU legislation regarding transparency and traceability within the food chain and for consumers.
• Liaise with food businesses, the European Commission and other Member States to secure a simplification of the food chain.
• Press the EU Commission and other Member States to require meat to be labelled to show countries where animals were born, fattened and slaughtered.
• Take the lead in persuading our EU partners to introduce EU-wide mandatory labelling of all meat and dairy products as to farming method.
As a consumer I want to know what I am eating and how it was produced.
Yours sincerely
Kevin and Seri
